Sister Elena Francis Arminio, (96) a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died July 6, 2022 at Saint Joseph's Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Cedar Grove, NJ. Sister Elena Francis was born in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Severini) Arminio. She entered the Sisters of Charity on October 1, 1951 and was a member for 70 years. Prior to her entrance to the Sisters of Charity, Sister Elena Francis graduated from Montclair State Teachers College, Montclair, NJ with a B.A. degree in Spanish and taught at Immaculate Conception School in Montclair. Following her entrance to the Congregation, Sister Elena obtained an M. A. degree in Spanish and Romance Languages from The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC. Sister Elena completed additional graduate studies in Spanish and Italian at Columbia University in New York City and Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. Sister Elena continued her ministry of education as a Sister of Charity. She served as a teacher at Saint Bernard School, Plainfield; the Academy of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station; Immaculate Conception High School, Montclair; and Saint. Michael High School, Union City. Sister Elena served for more than 50 years at the College of Saint Elizabeth, Morristown, NJ (Saint Elizabeth University) as Associate Professor of Foreign Languages. After retiring from this position, Sister Elena continued to serve as a mentor to many international students who studied at Saint Elizabeth's. She was always ready to assist with translating whenever these services were needed. Sister Elena continued to reside at the Convent of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ until very recently. Sister Elena was loving and generous; she remained in contact with students she had taught many years ago. She was very supportive of the Seton Associates and enjoyed working with Associates in the Villa Book Club. Sister Elena Francis was predeceased by her parents, her sister Victoria DiGiovani, and her brother Anthony. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity, her brother Joseph, her sister May Pennetta, her cousins, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. The wake for Sister Elena Francis Arminio will be held in Holy Family Chapel, Convent Station, NJ from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2022 followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Masks are required in-person. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Convent Station immediately following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sister Elena's memory to the Sisters of Charity Development Fund, P.O.
