SISTER ETHEL BENEVILLE, SC
Sister Ethel Beneville, (87) formerly Sister Ann Pauline, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth,
died January 30, 2025 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, Watchung, New Jersey.
Sister Ethel was born in Dumont, New Jersey, the daughter of Paul and Ethel (Bowers) Beneville. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 6, 1956 and was a member for 68 years. Sister Ethel graduated from the College (University) of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, New Jersey with a B.S. in Business Administration and received a MRE degree in Religious Education from Seattle University, Seattle, Washington. Sister Ethel was an educator in the states of New Jersey and Montana. She served as teacher at Corpus Christi School, Hasbrouck Heights; Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Tenafly; St. Michael School, Newark; St. Matthew School, Ridgefield; St. Aloysius School, Jersey City; Bayley Ellard High School, Madison; St. Joseph High School, Paterson; Loyola/Sacred Heart High School, Missoula, MT; St. Vincent Academy, Newark and the Academy of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station.
Sister was a Computer System Manager at the College (University) of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station. She was a Teacher Assistant at the Children’s Center, Morristown Memorial Hospital and served in the Financial Office at the Sisters of Charity.
Sister was very creative as an artist and writer. She loved beautiful things and had an artistic eye which visually enhanced the Motherhouse. Sister shared her gift of creative writing and planned special liturgies and annual retreat materials for the Motherhouse Community.
Sister Ethel loved her family, especially enjoying their visits and staying in touch.
Sister Ethel is survived by the Sisters of Charity and many family members throughout the USA and Canada. She is predeceased by her parents, brothers Raymond, Vernon and Paul, sisters Florence Cudworth and Carol Hansen, nephews Charles and Lance Cudworth.
