Happy heavenly birthday, Zebe. My fondest memories were spending weekends with you and Babi either at your house or going to dog shows.
Growing up, I’m glad I had the opportunity to learn about the Dog Show industry. Having a grandfather who showed & judged dogs, plus was a president of a kennel club was so cool. I remember every Labor Day weekend, I’d join you with hosting The Sussex Hills Kennel Club show. I had fun directing traffic (esp. the RVs), setting up, seeing all the dogs, and making announcements on the arena’s speakers. Knowing and being a part of dog shows is a fun fact of mine. That’s thanks to you.
I remember when I would stay over we’d play board games, craft or I’d explore whatever new thing you added to your garage. Sometimes I’d even join you in fishing trips or go to car shows (at Wendy’s or Lead East.) I enjoyed being able to go on car rides in your vintage Ford pickup, which had won a few awards!
I also appreciated when you’d come cheer me on at various sports events.
Thank you for introducing me to unique activities that have helped shape a part of my life.
Last, but not least, let’s go Yankees!

I met Gary in 1991 after we went to Nynex following working for NYTEL. We went to NYNEX in Brooklyn. Splicers, we went to school to train as splicers. We were assigned to a garage on Atlantic Ave. We were assigned to the same gang under manager Gazzola. After a while Gary and I ended up as partners and he was my partner at work but most of all my friend forever. I learned alot from Gary, about work and about his family life. From his wife, children and Grandchildren. He was a devoted family man. I moved to California after retiring but kept in touch. One night after the earthquake in Japan around 3 o'clock in the morning my phone rang it was Gary telling me that a tsunami was going to hit California's coast. He cared. I moved back to New York in 2019 and spoke to Gary almost daily talking about his family, his sickness and his pain. I mentioned getting in touch with the VA, seeing he needed assistance. He told me how when he was discharged they had messed up his DD214. He was able to get somethings resolved and the VA was able to help some. He would be a help to his wife, and then shee would be a help to him. His family was there for him. I miss our daily talks, but I know he is not in pain anymore I received an email from his daughter about hospice and his passing. Tears came to me and the sadness I have now will last forever.
I know he is in heaven and looking down and praying for his family.
I miss you Gary I will see you again in Heaven.
You were like me, a family man, son father grandfather Army vet.
God bless you.
Tony

Zebe was the best grandfather my brother and I could have asked for. He was a proud father, grandfather, veteran, New Yorker, Catholic, and Yankees fan. He was a man who returned from war in Vietnam, won the fight against cancer, and endured countless health battles over the years. Zebe was the strongest man I’ve ever met. There wasn’t a problem Zebe couldn’t solve or an item he couldn’t fix. He was passionate about collecting what he loved and owning and fixing his childhood dream cars. He loved storytelling about his adventures throughout the Bronx, fighting for our country in Vietnam, and his quests working on telephone lines in New York City over the years. He was not only the most caring, but the most helpful, resourceful, and selfless person to the people he loved and his community. Zebe is a big part of the person I am today and was a true role model for me growing up. I am proud to be his grandson and to have only good memories with an incredible person. He has the best seat in the house beside my great-grandfather at Yankee Stadium with God in Heaven. He will be deeply missed.
