Obituary of John A. Coogan, Jr.
John Coogan, 75, passed away on April 2, 2025 in Parsippany, NJ.
Born in Ohio, he was the only child of John and Mary Coogan, who predeceased him. As a young man, his family moved to New Jersey, where fate led him to meet the love of his life, Theresa (nee Raffaele) at work. Together, they built a home in Rutherford and raised three daughters, whom he cherished deeply.
A dedicated and hardworking husband, John spent decades in the IT world, ensuring his family had a good life. After Theresa's passing from illness in 1996, he devoted himself to his daughters, instilling in them the values of family and perseverance.
John had a passion for sports, especially hockey. A devoted New Jersey Devils fan, he was a season-ticket holder from 1983 to 2000 and an active member of the team's original fan club. Each year he would travel to the NHLBCC. These trips were always an adventure!
He was a voracious reader and his sharp mind retained everything from pop culture trivia to classic literature. A true music enthusiast, his collection spanned from Queen and Led Zeppelin to the Eagles and classical symphonies.
John was kind and generous. He was full of and quick to offer useless knowledge and fun facts! He had a great sense of humor and loved "Dad Jokes".
He leaves his daughters, Tracy Dignam (Robert), Julie Sobsey (David) and Beth (Carlo); his six grandchildren, Collin, Matthew, Luke, Zach, Alexa, and Giovana, two great grandchildren, James and Rosemary and many more dear friends who are indeed family. His wife, Theresa, and his dear Aunt Kathleen Coogan passed before him.
