Obituary of Carolyn A. Hoff
In Loving Memory of Carolyn A. Hoff (née Riley)
Carolyn A. Hoff, a devoted mother, proud Navy veteran, and beloved member of the Pine Brook community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Morristown Medical Center after a sudden illness. She was 89.
Born and raised in East Orange, NJ, Carolyn made her home in Pine Brook in 1966, where she raised her family and became a cherished neighbor and friend.
Carolyn lived a life of deep purpose and quiet strength. She proudly served her country as a lieutenant in the United States Navy, stationed stateside before her honorable discharge in 1960. Her service was a source of pride throughout her life.
A woman of intellect and compassion, Carolyn was a 1955 graduate of St. Vincent's Academy in Newark. She went on to earn her nursing degree from St. Mary’s Nursing School in Orange in 1958 and later graduated from Seton Hall University in 1965. Her calling as a registered nurse led her to serve in the operating room at St. Mary’s Hospital and later at the VA Hospital in East Orange, where she cared deeply for her patients until her retirement in 1998.
Carolyn’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. A longtime parishioner at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, she found joy in worship and community. In her free time, she shared her talents and friendship with fellow members of the Montville Township Senior Citizens group and the ACME Fabrics Quilting Club, where she found warmth in companionship and creativity in her craft.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Raymond L. Hoff, in 1997. Carolyn leaves behind a legacy of love in her four children: Amy E. Biebel and her husband David of Cliffwood, NJ; Meghan C. Mai and her husband Frank of Hackensack, NJ; Patrick R. Hoff of Pine Brook, NJ; and Heather L. Del Plato and her husband Dominick of Pine Brook, NJ. Carolyn was also a proud and devoted grandmother to Amelia Biebel, Gordon Biebel and his wife Kaitlyn, Matthew Mai, Daniel Mai, Victor Mai, Tyler Del Plato, and Danielle Del Plato.
Family and friends are warmly invited to celebrate Carolyn’s life at a visitation on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at S.J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service, 60 North Beverwyck Road, Lake Hiawatha, NJ. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Montville, NJ. Carolyn will be laid to rest beside her husband at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial donations be made in Carolyn’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project, honoring her lifelong spirit of service.
