I have a very special memory of Alex. When Joe and I dated in high school, he was so proud of his 18 month old nephew. He beamed whenever he talked about him and would tell me the cute things that Alex would do or say as he was learning to talk. Alex learned “Ow juice (I’m spelling it phonetically)” when he wanted juice, which is Thai and obviously English. Joe lovingly gave me a wallet size photo of Alexander from when he was I believe around 12 mos. old. I got to meet Alex a couple of times and just loved his beautiful eyes, chubby cheeks, and black curls. I carried the photo with me for a long time, even after Joe and I went our separate ways for college. Along with photos of Joe, I had Alex’s photo on my wall next to him as a reminder of an important and tender time in my life. A few years later, when I came home from college and met up with Joe for coffee, we visited Ay, Chris, and Alex. Alex was now older and a brilliant, wide-eyed, respectful, inquisitive little boy. It was wonderful to see how he’d grown! Fast forward 23 years and I saw him for the first time again when Joe and I got back together. It was endearing for me to see him after so long. Adults really don’t change all that much over the years, but seeing a baby grow into a boy and then into man is always special. Alexander was a sweet and gentle soul. My boys took to him quickly and easily, and despite the age difference, Uncle Alex was always interested in what they had to say. I don’t know if Alex knew how much we loved him while he was in his earthly body, but I am certain that he was embraced by Our Lord with unfailing Love and Light, and all the love that we all have for him here was felt when he was passed on. And as a Catholic, I know that because he went straight to Heaven, he is also considered a saint (everyone who goes to Heaven is). So, now you know, Alex. You were loved just exactly the way you were. Rest in everlasting peace… until we meet again. Ora pro nobis, Sanctus Alexander.

In May of 2013, I had written the following about Alex (who, at the time, was the same age I am now, 24) for a middle school English assignment:
"A very special person in my life is my older brother, Alex. He is funny, creative, energetic, and totally awesome. He is 11 years older than me but I have a better relationship with him than with my younger sisters, who are much closer to me in age. Alex was born on April 19th 1989 and is now 24 years old. He is a proficient skateboarder and a spirited person.
Alex has black hair and brown eyes. He is inimitable, literate, and the funniest person I know.
Alex and I have lots in common, including our love for food. We like to experiment with different meals and use miscellaneous ingredients to make them taste even better. One time, we made grilled cheese sandwiches, each with a different kind of cheese. In one sandwich, we used Munster cheese and it came out amazing! It was my favorite because the bread was crisped to perfection and the cheese melted in your mouth. My least favorite was the one we made with provolone. Alex is a very animated person and is a lot of fun to hang out with.
Alex and I, we absolutely love scary movies! We have seen all 3 Hostels, all of the Nightmare on Elm Streets (new & old), every Friday The 13th movie, all of the Halloween movies (new & old), every Saw movie, The Blaire Witch Project 1 & 2, and many more. One notable memory, was the night we looked outside, and it looked like the girl from The Blaire Witch 2 was circling around our swings. We had a mini heart-attack until a few seconds later, when we realized it was only a deer. Alex and I, we also like to go on walks. We were walking down the street one night, and it started pouring, so we ran to his car and waited until it stopped while listening to music and dancing like lunatics. What makes my brother unique is that he is my friend, my sibling, and my role model, all in one.
Alex is immature for a 24 year old but can be responsible when he needs to be. When I need help, he always has my back no matter what. When I'm sad, he makes me happy. And he's always there for me when I need him. I can count on him more than I can count on anyone else, even my closest friends. He is very sympathetic and is a good-hearted person. He has a radiant personality and is loved by all who are willing to accept him for who he is.
He has been through a lot the past 24 years and is currently trying to get his life back in order. There are some things that will be very difficult for him to accomplish but I will be there for him if he needs me. I hope this time he learned what he needed to learn and that he will never have to leave me or our family again. I don't want him to miss my sisters and me growing up.
I've always had an older brother and I don't know how to live without one."
Lyrics from the song by Jhené Aiko, For My Brother: "I'll love you 'til your last breath, 'til the last drop past death, 'til forever ends and that's never."
