SISTER BEVERLY BLIGH, SC

Sister Beverly Bligh, formerly Sister Michael Marita, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died August 18, 2025 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center, Watchung, New Jersey. She was just shy of her 89 th birthday.

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, Sister Beverly was the daughter of John and Ellen (Brady) Bligh. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 6, 1955 and was a member for almost 70 years.

Sister Beverly graduated from the College (University) of Saint Elizabeth, ConventStation with a B.S. in Elementary Education. Sister Beverly was an educator in New Jersey serving as a teacher at St. Phillip School in Saddle Brook, and at several schools in Jersey City; St. Joseph School, Our Lady of Victories School, St. Patrick School, St. Mary School, St. Bridget School and Resurrection School. After that, she volunteered at Sacred Heart Elementary School in Jersey City.

Sister had Certificates in Pre-School Education and Spanish. She took continuing education courses in several areas including World Hunger, The Latin American Experience and Religious Education.

Sister Beverly was a true Vincentian. She walked and rode buses in Jersey City talking to the people she met and giving to those in need from her own resources, such as coffee to homeless people and her coat to those without one. She also provided comfort and love.

Sister Beverly was close to her large family including nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She prized their relationships and spoke lovingly of them. Sister Beverly was a gracious friend who was described as humble, funny and grace-filled.

Sister Beverly is survived by the Sisters of Charity and many family members including five nieces: Ellen DeCorso, Liz Orlando, Patricia Bligh, Mary Romano and Nancy Carey and a nephew, Christopher. She is predeceased by her parents, brothers John and Sherman, sister-in-law Diane Bligh and nephew John.

The wake and funeral are being held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Sisters of Charity Development Fund, PO Box 476, Convent Station, NJ 07961-0476 would be appreciated.
