Obituary of Anthony William DiFilippo
Anthony William (Bill) DiFilippo passed away peacefully Saturday morning, August 23, 2025 at Rouse House in Youngsville, PA. following an extended illness. He was 89 years old.
Born and raised in Newark, NJ, he met the love of his life, the former Maria Donna DiNola in Newark. The couple married on October 6, 1957 and ultimately settled in Parsippany-Troy Hills, NJ in 1967 where they raised their two sons. In 2016, Anthony and Donna relocated to Morgantown, WV to be near their sons, and settled in Russell, PA in 2025.
Anthony spent 39 years as a routeman with the Newark Newsdealers Company, waking up before the sun and making sure the good people of New Jersey had their morning news. Rain, snow, or shine - he delivered. Previously, he had worked as a draftsman with IBM, butpreferred a career where he did not need a shirt and tie.
He was a longtime member of the Newspaper and Mail Deliverers Union of New York and Vicinity. When he wasn't making his route or spending time with his beloved family, you could find him on the softball fields of Newark or serving his congregation as an usher at Abundant Life Worship Center in Whippany.
He was the proud husband of Maria Donna DiFilippo for nearly 68 years; together, they raised two sons, Dr. William DiFilippo of Russell, PA, and Dr. James DiFilippo of Morgantown, WV, who inherited both his dedication to work and his sense of humor. He was the proud grandfather of William DiFilippo Jr.; Dr. Stephanie King, and her husband Levi; and Nicole Ferro and her husband, Sam; and great-grandfather to his two greatest joys, Nico Anthony and Gianna Marie King - all of whom he spoiled endlessly with hugs, laughs, and probably a few too many cookies. He is now reunited in heaven with his siblings, James DeFilippo and Frances LaFiura, along with his mother, Carmella, and his father, James.
Anthony loved his faith, his family, and a good laugh. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life lived with heart, humor, and a whole lot of love. He’ll be dearly missed, but never forgotten. In his honor, hug your family, swing a bat, and maybe enjoy a slice of
something sweet — just like he would’ve wanted.
In lieu of flowers, Anthony’s family requests that donations are made to the CJD Foundation in support of the fundraising efforts done in memory of his cousin, Tom Catanzaro.
