Life brings us many cherished memories and happy moments, but it also brings us sadness. Joey Keegan is one of those cherished memories of a friendship made many years ago. That friendship has never eroded by time nor distance.
Many years ago in Kuranda I met a bunch of blokes wanting to connect with the local police. That chance meeting was a connection that was never broken. The following week was the beginning of those cherished memories and Joey was very prominent in making those memories, my liver was thankful when they all returned home.
My friendship with Joey was not just police family, but my family, my brother.
RIP brother we will meet again.

Joe was the most resilient kind hearted knowledgeable person I have ever came across the way he did things not because he had to or was told to just because it was who he was made a world of a difference in my life and many people‘s lives. It’s a short time that I knew him, but I got to spend the last three years with him Basically every single day I learned many things from him. He gave me lots of advice. I am so shocked and saddened at Joe's sudden accident. Joe was such a dedicated and caring person wrapped in a gruff exterior and sealed with his famous mustache! Joe was the backbone of solving problems, never afraid to get dirty, dusty, or sweaty while behind, underneath, or on top of some equipment. He never accepted defeat and could solve any problem with creative tenacity, drawing on his connections to his myriad variety of friends with skills and equipment. Joe was loyal and faithful and held to his personal integrity without putting anyone else down. He held to a standard of treating people with respect and courtesy. He had a huge heart and will leave a giant hole in this world. I can hear his famous phrases playing in my mind - his memories will continue to bring us to laughter as we cry at his loss.
