Sister Maureen Malone, SC

Sister Maureen Malone, (86), formerly Sister John Immaculate, a Sister of Chairty of Saint Elizabeth, died on December 28, 2025, at Complete Care at Saint Vincent’s, Cedar Grove, NJ.

Sister Maureen was born in Elizabeth, NJ, the daughter of John and Mary (Garvey) Malone. She entered the Sisters of Charity on March 6, 1957, and was a member for 68 years.

Sister Maureen graduated from the College (University), of Saint Elizabeth Convent Station, NJ, with a B.A. degree in English. She received an M. A. in Special Education from Trenton State College, Trenton, NJ and earned certification as a National Certified Counselor and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor in New Jersey.

Sister Maureen’s first ministry experiences were in education in New Jersey. She was a teacher at St. Francis School, Ridgefield, St. Stephen School, Kearny and Sacred Heart School, Trenton.

As Sister Maureen became aware of the needs of children, teens and families in the Trenton area, she felt called to offer care, compassion and assistance to troubled youth and their families. Sister Maureen was instrumental in the founding of several programs which continue to provide needed services. Some of the issues which were addressed by these programs include alcohol and drug addiction, lack of housing, HIV, poverty and other family concerns. Sister Maureen served as a counselor at Anchor House, Trenton, NJ, Triad House, Trenton, NJ, and It Takes a Family, Cinnaminson, NJ. In addition, Sister Maureen was an Addictions Counselor and the Director of the New Choices Program at Catholic Charities in Trenton, NJ.

In 2010 Sister Maureen received a Cherish the Children Award from the Mercer County Department of Human Services. This award highlighted Sister Maureen’s tireless efforts and hard work on behalf of the children of Mercer County.

Sister Maureen was known for her compassion and dedication to families most in need. She loved animals, especially dogs. Sister Maureen enjoyed sharing stories about her life experiences; she had a good sense of humor. Sister Maureen is remembered as a sister always ready to help anyone in need.

Sister Maureen was predeceased by her parents and her brother Thomas. She is survived by her nephew Michael, her niece Megan and her husband Phil Blecker, grandniece Olivia, grandnephews Thomas and Sean and many caring cousins.

The wake for Sister Maureen Malone will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Holy Family Chapel, Convent Station, NJ, from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 and will be livestreamed. Burial in Holy Family Cemetery will immediately follow the mass. Funeral services are under the direction of S.J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Services, Lake Hiawatha, NJ.
