My Uncle Norby was what you would refer to as “the salt of the earth” - honest, hard-working, reliable, a good friend to many people and so, so loved. I was so lucky to call him my Uncle. Both Diane (my sister) and I enjoyed him disguising himself as Santa when we were young. He’d walk in fully disguised with a deep Ho! Ho! Ho! and we’d break out in smiles and giggles and say “It’s Uncle Norby!! Hi Uncle Norbyt!!” He laughed so hard - but stayed in character for a long time. Of course my Aunt Gloria was with him too, laughing as well. What fun times we had!
There were many picnics and family Sunday dinner celebrations and more. Lots of times spent at the Local Elks both in Parsippany, and Lacy Township down the shore. Many nights dancing and listening to our Italian relatives sing their Italian songs. Uncle Norby was a great piano player and often played as everyone sang.
When they got their small dog Sherrie, that was such a bright light in Norbert and Gloria’s lives. So many fun outings with Sherrie - that dog was smart and so loved. It broke their hearts when she was gone.
Of course my cousins Karen and Glen were busy in their school activities and boy scouts and community projects - they are amazing individuals and will miss their father dearly, as will I, my sister Diane, Barry her husband and my Mom Joan, Norby’s sister.
There were many jokes between my Dad Luddy and Uncle Norby. At one time my Dad wanted to buy a banner to say “Happy 100 years!” when Gloria and Joans’ 50th birthdays rolled around on the same week. Luckily Uncle Norby talked him out of that - “Luddy, You’ll be sleeping on the couch for a very long time - it’s not worth it! “ lol. My Mom said that would have been very bad. That was a fun party - and it went on into the wee hours of the morning.
My Uncle Norby was a teacher, a mason, a member of civic organizations, a fantastic Father, Brother and Husband and he will remain forever in our heats and minds. I do believe that my Dad, Al & Blanch (my Grandparents), Uncle Danny and Rose, Aunt Marie, Aunt Irma and Pete and all friends and relatives who left before him were there to welcome him into Heaven. I love you - we miss you - we honor you Norbert Kalokira. God Bless.

I grew up in Lake Parsippany and graduated from BHS with Norby in 1956. His father and mine were friends. Norby was great on the football field and off it. He was a proud member of the Lake’s group that attended BHS. Our lunches will be less bright without him.
