Obituary of Giuseppe Canonaco

Giuseppe "Pino" Canonaco passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, February 10, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family at his Pine Brook, NJ home. He was 86.

Born in Domanico Cosenza, Italy, Mr. Canonaco immigrated to the United States at the age of 16 and settled in Bronx, NY. He then returned to Italy and met his sweetheart, the former Carmelina Stancati. They were married on October 7, 1962, beginning a love affair of nearly 64 years. The couple moved to the Pine Brook section of Montville Township in 1974 where they would subsequently raise their three children.

As a newcomer to the United States, Mr. Canonaco worked as a bartender with his uncle, at the Folk City Bar in Greenwich Village. He also later owned and operated a restaurant, da Riccardo's in Recco, Italy. Upon returning to the US and settling in Pine Brook, he became a barber and opened Pino's Men's Salon on Baldwin Road in Parsippany where he served the community for over 40 years. After he retired at the age of 72, he continued his trade privately for several years for his loyal customers.

Mr. Canonaco was a longtime parishioner of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church and their Knights of Columbus Council. He was also a past member of Montville Unico.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Carmelina "Lina" Canonaco; three beloved children, Rick Canonaco and his wife, Cheryl of Spring Lake Heights, NJ, Maria Lardner and her husband, Brian of Patomac Falls, VA, and Alex Canonaco and his wife, Christina of Caldwell, NJ; a dear sister, Iole Barletta of Fort Worth, Texas, nine cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Eric, Isabella, Gabriella, Julia, Sabrina, Logan, Sonya, and Dylan; and one great-grandson, Max. Pino was preceded in death by his siblings, Franco, Mario, Alfredo, and Angelo Canonaco, and Lidia Fazio.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Saturday, February 14, 2026, 11:00am at St. Pius X R.C. Church, 24 Changebridge Road, Montville, NJ 07045. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, East Hanover, NJ. Visitation will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for memorial gifts to St. Pius X Church, in Pino's memory.
