Obituary of Hildegard Heinz

Hildegard Heinz passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026, at the age of 97. ​ 

Hilda lived a beautiful life, filled with love, faith, and devotion to her family, friends and neighbors.  She will be remembered for her letter writing and sending birthday, anniversary, and holiday cards to so many people. ​ She was married to Thomas Heinz for 71 years until his passing in 2022.

​Born in 1928 to Hubert and Frances Bremer, Hilda was the eldest of 5 children.  Her parents were German immigrants, and Hilda spoke German until she started school.​ She graduated from Pope Pius XII High School in 1947 and worked at Bankers Trust in NY City and Athenia Steel before dedicating herself to raising her five children alongside Tom. ​Hilda was a wonderful cook and baker.  When anyone visited the family home in Montville, there was always tea or coffee and homemade banana bread or chocolate chip cookies served at the round dining room table.

Hilda is survived by her children: Mary Heinz Phillips (Jim), Carol Bennett (Peter), Jane D’Anthony (Michael), Thomas Heinz (Mary), and Diane Harper (Blaine), and 14 grandchildren: Amelia, Thomas (Kate), Juliana (Mario), Michael, John, Dominique (Joseph), Jennifer, Joseph (Alexandra), Tommy, Cole (Ellie), Evan, Ryan, David (Jenny), and Andrea (Paul); and seven great-grandchildren: Ava, Joseph, Nina, Enzo, Josefine, Michael Kai, Davis, and Nathan. She is also survived by her siblings Elizabeth Albers, and William Bremer. ​ In addition to her husband Tom, she was predeceased by her brother Hubert Bremer and his wife Jean, sister Dorothy O’Shea and her husband Joe, sister-in-law Barbara Bremer, and son-in-law Michael D’Anthony.​

Visiting hours will be on Tuesday May 19th at S.J. Priola Funeral Home, 60 North Beverwyck Rd., Lake Hiawatha from 4:00 - 7:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday May 20, 2026 at  11 AM at St. Pius X, 24 Changebridge Road, Montville, NJ. Entombment to follow at  Calvary Cemetery, Paterson, NJ. ​

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
