Obituary of Susan Brienza
Susan Brienza passed peacefully at her home, surrounded by her adoring family. She was 65 years young.
Susan was the beloved wife of over 40 years to Patsy Brienza. The two were married at St. Peter the Apostle Parish on May 14, 1983, beginning a beautiful life together. They raised their family in Lake Hiawatha, where the Brienza home was always alive with kids, pets, noise, and love.
An animal lover through and through, Susan welcomed and cared for any creature that came her way. “Who rescued who?” always seemed to apply when it came to the many animals she adored. She was devoted to her beloved horse, Riggs, who was recently relocated to Standardbred Retirement Foundation to peacefully live out his remaining years as Susan’s own journey here on earth was nearing its close — a final act of grace and love that reflected her spirit.
Susan retired last year from a “job” that she truly loved for decades as the security guard at Parsippany High School. To the students whose lives she touched, Susan was far more than a familiar face in the halls — she was a comfort and an encouragement. She had a way of connecting with students.
Susan was an avid gardener who loved being outdoors in nature. She cherished camping trips with her family, hiking adventures, and every opportunity to soak in the peace and beauty of the outdoors.
Above all else, Susan’s greatest joy and source of strength came from her grandchildren. She was the proud and doting Grandma to her fab four — Sophia and Julia Guerrero, and Mia and Joseph Brienza. Even during her final days, Susan’s wish was simply to have the children nearby, giggling and playing, filling her home and heart with the happiness she cherished most.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, Patsy Brienza; her loving children, Jason Brienza and his wife Jessica, and Heather Brienza and her husband Wilber Guerrero; her treasured grandchildren Sophia, Julia, Mia, and Joseph; her loyal pup Lola; her beloved felines Gizmo and Toby; her brother Howard McDowell and his wife Barbara; and many more dear relatives and friends.
