
Obituary of Sr. Carol Ann Lockwood
Sister Carol Ann Lockwood, SC (70), a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died on June 10, 2026, at Complete Care at Saint Vincent’s, Cedar Grove, New Jersey.
Sister Carol Ann was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, the daughter of John and Ruth (Armstrong) Lockwood. She entered the Sisters of Charity on April 11, 1985, and was a dedicated member for 41 years.
Prior to entering the Congregation, Sister Carol Ann graduated from Douglass College/Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ with a B. S. degree in Home Economics and was a Home Economics teacher in Park Ridge High School, Park Ridge, NJ.
After entrance into the Sisters of Charity, Sister Carol Ann received an M. A. degree in Education from the College (University) of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ, and an M. A. degree in Theology from Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ.
Sister Carol Ann devoted many years to the ministry of education. She served as both teacher and Director of Saint Mary’s Child Care Center, Elizabeth, NJ and as Education Director of the York Street Project, Jersey City, NJ. Sister Carol Ann was a teacher at Saint Patrick’s School, Jersey City, NJ, and she served as Religious Studies Teacher at Immaculate Heart Academy, Washington Township, NJ and as Campus Minister at Holy Angels Academy, Demarest, NJ. Sister Carol Ann also served as teacher and Director of
Admissions at Caritas Academy, Jersey City, NJ. At the time of her final illness, Sister Carol Ann was a Religious Studies teacher at Saint Vincent Academy, Newark, NJ.
Sister Carol Ann served the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity as Director of Candidates. In 2005 she was part of the Sisters of Charity Haiti Mission Team.
Sister Carol Ann had a ready, welcoming smile. She loved young people and she loved teaching and sharing faith with young people of all ages – from pre-school to high school. Sister Carol Ann was committed to the Charism of Charity and to working for social justice. She dearly loved her family and the Sisters of Charity community.
Sister Carol Ann was preceded in death by her parents and her aunt, Janet Patten. She is survived by her Sisters of Charity community, her sisters, Christine (Michael) McPartland, Jan Lockwood, and Monica (Kenneth) Nycom, her brothers Michael (Debbie) and Jack, loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and her dear friends.
The wake for Sister Carol Ann Lockwood will be held at Holy Family Chapel, Convent Station, NJ on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM and will be livestreamed. Burial in Holy Family Cemetery, Convent Station, will immediately follow the mass. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of S.J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service, Lake Hiawatha, NJ.
