Obituary of Anthony Mariano Conte

Please share a memory of Anthony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anthony Mariano Conte passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2026, at his Parsippany NJ home following an extended illness. He was 87.

Born and raised in Paterson NJ, his friends and family knew him as "Tony".

Tony met the love of his life, the former Lucy P. Salierno, in 1962. They were married on August 17, 1963, beginning a wonderful 63-year marriage. Tony and Lucy began their family life in Totowa NJ, then Ramsey NJ, a period in Eastern Connecticut, and then Morris Township NJ, before settling in Parsippany NJ in 1977.

Tony served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960. Stationed in Texas, he was part of the U.S. Army's Air Defense Artillery unit. These teams manned some of America's first operational surface-to-air guided missiles. After beginning his career in industrial equipment sales, in 1969, Tony earned his B.S in Business Administration from Seton Hall University.

Throughout his career, Tony held various industrial sales management positions, including a decade of international sales where he was proud to utilize his fluency in Spanish. Until his retirement in 2004, Tony served sixteen years as the Director of Marketing for the Norwalt Design Group in Randolph NJ.

Tony was actively involved in the lives of his sons during their formative years, instilling faith in God, love of Country, and an appreciation for the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He was a life-long Yankee fan and once met Mickey Mantle while on a business flight. He also coached baseball with the Par-Troy Little League. A devout Roman Catholic, he was a longtime member of St. Ann's R.C. Parish in Parsippany, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and in other volunteer groups. Proud of his Italian heritage, he was also a member of the Parsippany Chapter of the Sons of Italy.

Tony had a passion for woodworking and spent countless hours in his basement workshop. His favorite projects included large Christmas decorations and other ornamental and functional woodcrafts. He was also the baker of the Conte household, preserving many of the recipes and traditions handed down from his mother and mother-in-law.

He is survived by his adored wife of 63 years, Lucy P. Conte; his two loving sons, Anthony M. Conte and his wife, Patricia of Chester, NJ, and James G. Conte and his wife, Lydia of Sussex, NJ; and his three beloved grandsons, James (fiancé, Jenna Marie Fazzini), John, and Joseph Conte. Tony was preceded in death by his brother, John Conte.
