Obituary of Ranbir S. Bhatia

Ranbir Singh Bhatia passed away peacefully Monday evening, July 27, 2026 at his Parsippany, NJ home surrounded by the love of his family. He was 70.

Born and raised in New Delhi, India, he immigrated to the United States in 1987, settling in New York, NY. He eventually moved to Parsippany-Troy Hills, NJ in 2002. 

He met his wife, Sarojini (nee Pujari) in Bombay at Sea Rock hotel while working at different food & beverage outlets. He then asked for a transfer at work to the same restaurant to be closer to his wife as he began to court her, and they started dating. 

The couple were married on November 26, 1983 and later blessed with a son, Angad. 

Mr. Bhatia earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Punjab University while living in India. 

He worked as a catering manager with Benares in Wycoff, NJ for the last 14 years. His first major role in this country was being a manager at Bombay Palace in Midtown Manhattan. He had then set up the restaurant, Utsav, in New York City before he moved on and opened up his own restaurant, Mirchi, until eventually moving on to Benares. 

Ranbir was a man of many passions. First and foremost, was his love of cuisine. It wasn’t about enjoying the meal, as much as it was about serving others and witnessing their joy while dining. His other passions in life revolved around games. Whether it be the card games he learned playing with his father, or his love for racquetball and golf as he grew older, Ranbir was always ready to put everything in life on hold so he could play with his friends and family.

Ranbir is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sarojini R. Bhatia; his cherished son, Angad Ranbir Bhatia of Parsippany; his dear father, Gurcharan Singh Bhatia of India; and a host of dear relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Joginder (nee Bagga) Bhatia; and a brother, Jasbir Bhatia.

Visitation and Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 10:00am to 12:00pm at S.J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service, North Beverwyck Road, Lake Hiawatha, NJ.  Private cremation will follow at Rosedale Crematory,  Montclair, NJ.
