Sister Anne Martina Walsh, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ at the age of 91.
Sister Anne Martina was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, the daughter of Martin and Mary (Cafferty) Walsh. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1939 and was a member for 74 years.
SHE graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ with a B.S .in Education and an M.A. Degree from Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ.
Sister Anne Martina served in the education ministry in New Jersey. She served as a teacher at St. Margaret of Scotland School, Morristown and Sacred Heart Elementary School, Jersey City. Sister Anne Martina served as Principal in Holy Rosary School, Elizabeth; St. Patrick School, Elizabeth; Holy Cross School, Harrison; and St. Cecilia Elementary School, Englewood. She was Vice-Principal in Corpus Christi School, Hasbrouck Heights. Sister Anne Martina was the Director of Activities in Mother Seton Residence, Montclair. She volunteered in Mount St. Andrew Villa, Paramus and retired to St. Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ in 2004 where she resided until her death.
She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Janet Walsh of Braintree, MA; her sisters Dorothy McCormack and Mary Kennedy of North Quincy, MA.; her Sisters-in law, Marcell Walsh and Rita Walsh; many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews.
