Sister Margaret Amelia Costello, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Saint Anne Villa in Convent Station, NJ at the age of 100.
Sister Margaret Amelia was born in Paterson, New Jersey, the daughter of Lawrence and Amelia (Cattell) Costello. She entered the Sisters of Charity on March 25, 1938 and was a member for 75 years.
Sister Margaret Amelia graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ with a B.A. in mathematics and from Seton Hall University, South Orange with an M.A. in guidance.
Sister Margaret Amelia served in the education ministry in the state of New Jersey. She served as a teacher at St. Joseph School, Jersey City; Marylawn of the Oranges, South Orange; and St. Mary of the Assumption High School, Elizabeth. She did office work and was a volunteer in DePaul Catholic High School, Wayne. She retired to Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ in 2010 where she resided until her death.
She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Larry Costello and her sister, Irene Konzelman.
