Obituary of SISTER MARIELLA JAMES MATTHIS

Sister Mariella James Matthis, a Sister of Charity of St. Elizabeth died Sunday morning, January 5, 2014 at St. Anne Viila in Florham Park. She was 86. Sister Mariella was born in Boston, MA, the daughter of Charles A. and Susan (Corrigan) Matthis. She entered the Sisters of Charity on April 2, 1950 and was a member for 64 years. Sister Mariella served in the care of orphans and as a Chaplain in the state of New Jersey. She served at St. Bridget's, Newark; Our Lady of Grace Orphanage, Hoboken; St. Mary Orphanage, Newark; and Mt. St. Joseph Children's Center, Totowa. She was an assistant in Seton Commissary, Convent Station and in the Personnel Office, Convent Station. She was Chaplain in St. Mary Hospital, Passaic and retired there. She moved to Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station in 2008, where she resided until her death. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
