Obituary of SISTER MARY STEPHEN MANNING

Sister Mary Stephen Manning, MSC, a Marianite of Holy Cross, passed away February 3, 2014 at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson following a brief illness. She was 89.
Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, to the late John Manning and Sarah Heffern Manning, Sister Mary Stephen entered the Marianites of Holy Cross in 1948 and was a member for 65 years.
Sister Mary Stephen graduated from Sacred Heart School and St. Aloysius Academy, both in Jersey City. She later graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing and earned her BS in Science and Nursing from St. John's University.
Sister was engaged in the health care ministry at St. Francis Hospital, Jersey City, The French Hospital, New York, City, and had spent the last 46 years at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson. During her tenure at St. Joseph's, she had served as Director of Medical Nursing, Director of Central Supply, and was a night supervisor at St. Vincent's Nursing Home in Cedar Grove.
Sister Mary Stephen is survived by the Marianites of Holy Cross; a sister, Jeanne Gallagher of Hightstown; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
The interment will be on Friday, Feb. 7, 11am at Our Lady of Princeton Cemetery, Princeton. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Retirement Fund of the Marianites of Holy Cross, 1011 Gallier St., New Orleans, LA., 70117
