Obituary of SISTER MARY VINCETTA SCANLON

Sister Mary Vincetta Scanlon, a Sister of Charity of St. Elizabeth, passed away Wednesday evening, February 12, 2014 at St. Anne Villa in Florham Park. She was 89.
Sister Mary Vincetta was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of James and Elizabeth (O'Brien) Scanlon. Sister Mary Vincetta served in the United States Marine Corps before entering the Sisters of Charity. She entered the Sisters of Charity on March 24, 1948 and was a member for 65 years.
She graduated from the College of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ with a B.S. degree in Business Administration and from Seton Hall University with a Masters in Business Administration.
Sister Mary Vincetta served as an educator and as a business administrator in the states of New Jersey and Florida. In Florida, she was a teacher at St. Joseph School, Pensacola. In New Jersey, she was a teacher at St. Mary's Elementary School, Dumont; served in the Treasurer's office, Convent of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station; and in the business office in St. Joseph's Hospital & Medical Center, Paterson. She became Provincial secretary and treasurer in the Western Provincial House, Paterson. Sister Mary Vincetta then became principal at St. Nicholas School, Passaic. She was a teacher and resource person at Assumption/All Saints, Jersey City. She moved to Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ in 2003 where she resided until her death.
She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her cousins Barbara and Russ Yoho, Atkinson, NH, Kathleen and Dave Kinsella, New Lenox, IL, and Dotti and Ron Narcisi, Crete, IL; a niece, Maureen Miller-Jones, Marston Mills, MA; a nephew James Scanlon; and a grandniece and grandnephew.
