Sister Irene Mary Roy, 87, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Morristown Memorial Medical Center, Morristown, NJ.
Sister Irene Mary was born in Lawrence, MA, the daughter of Azidor and Irene (Pomerleau) Roy. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 7, 1946 and was a member for 68 years.
She graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ with a B.S. in Elementary Education.
Sister served in the education ministry in New Jersey and Massachusetts. She served as a teacher at St. Paul of the Cross School, Jersey City; Corpus Christi School, Hasbrouck Heights; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Ridgewood; St. Mary's School, Salem, MA; Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Maplewood; Holy Name of Jesus School, East Orange; St. Catharine School, Glen Rock; Academy of St. Aloysius Elementary School, Jersey City; St. Anthony School, Elizabeth and retired at St. Anthony Convent. She moved to Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station in 2006 where she resided until her death.
She is survived by the Sisters of Charity, sisters-in-law Eleanor Roy and Alice Roy, nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Sister Irene Mary was predeceased by her parents, Azidor and Irene and brothers, Richard and Roland.
