Irene Zahorian Kovshik, 93, of Pine Brook, NJ passed away on August 3, 2015. She was the daughter of the late George and Mary Zahorian, and beloved mother of Walter S. Kovshik, Jr.
Born in Dunmore, PA., Irene graduated Dunmore High School in 1940 and moved to New jersey in 1942. She worked for Western Electric and was a supervisor for DuMont Laboratories. In 1949, she married the love of her life, Walter S. Kovshik. Sr., a Field Service Representative for Curtiss-Wright, with whom she enjoyed 39 years of marriage. His job necessitated traveling throughout the United States until 1960, when the settled in Pine Brook, NJ. Irene worked for Dell Publishing from 1965 until her retirement in 1987. During this time, she enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, who was then employed by Pan American World Airways.
As a homemaker, Irene excelled at cooking, crocheting, needlepoint, and creating a warm, loving home for her family. She was a great mom. Irene was a founding member of St. Pius X Church in Montville. She was a strong woman with a kind and generous heart, and supported many charities.
Irene is survived by her loving son, Walter S. Kovshik, Jr. of Orlando, Fl.; a brother, Stephen Zahorian of Lincoln Park, NJ; and is greatly loved and missed by other family and friends. She was predeceased by her devoted husband Walter S. Kovshik, Sr. in 1988; brothers George Zahorian, Jr. of Clifton, NJ and John Zahorjan of Orchard Park, NY.
