Jai Shree Krishna and Hello to everyone,
I just want to start off by saying that my dada, Rajnikant Shah, is the man who formed not only me as a person, but every single person in my family. When my little brothers and sister and I were little, it was my grandparents who we grew up with when our parents were at work. From those years, I spent an enormous amount of time with my grandpa, both as an inspirational family member and a friend. The trait that I admired most about dada was his dogged work ethic and his inpenetrable willpower. Mentally, he was the strongest man in the world to me. After going through two painful knee surgeries simultaneously, my grandpa was up running and playing cricket with me (btw he was the MS dhoni of his time, star captain of every cricket team he played for). After going through about 16-18 heavy doses of chemotherapy, he was willing to study and teach me math all night until 5 in the morning at 77 years old (yes, he always got 800s in math while i was humiliated by being beat by a 77 year old man). Rather than sleeping during the day due to his heavy chemo doses, he would read our textbooks and when we would come home from school, he would teach my siblings and I whatever we needed aid in. Not only did he help me and my immediate family, but this man made sacrifices to help whoever he could. Giving up a high position job and moving to America at a young age just so his kids and his grandkids can have a great opportunity in life meant the world to us. Helping close family and others from India settle in and also gain opportunities was another generous work he accomplished. What I will always remember about Dada is what he said always said to me: "There will always be ups and downs in life, but you need to have a goal in life. Be confident and do not get disappointed. I know you can do it." I know this is a cliche phrase that everyone says, but coming from him it was the most unique saying because he not only represented this saying, but also amplified it to a level that no one can match. He not only accomplished his goal in life, but the goals of many other people. I will miss him yelling at us, I will miss his stern face when he gets mad at us, I will miss his strict personality, I will miss his big heart, and I will most certainly miss the love and affection he showed for our family. I can go on to the moon and back listing details about my grandfather, but i just want everyone to know that this is not goodbye; there are not only 9 members in the Shah residence. There are still 10, one of them is just inside of us and looking at us from a distance a little further from home.

Dada was a great husband, father, grandfather, mama, kaka, phua and anything else you can think of. So in his honor I'd like to say this. It is one thing to exist, but it is another to live.
My grandfather, Rajnikant Shah, chose to do the latter. Although he did not have much money in the beginning , he worked hard and put his mind and soul to everything he did. Dada's intelligence along with his hardwork and integrity allowed him to become successful.
After achieving his goals Dada decided he wanted even more for his children. Despite having a great job in India, Dada chose to come to America leaving everything behind with the sole intention of brightening his childrens' future.
Once his children were settled he decided to retire from his job to start a new one that he welcomed with open arms. Taking care of his grandchildren. From teaching us how to walk to helping with homework that even our parents found confusing, Dada did everything in his capacity and more to ensure the success of not only his children, but grandchildren too.
There are countless memories I have with him and I will continue to cherish them forever. I will always remember how Dada would grimace when we made him drink beet juice or how he would yell at me when I'd use my phone too much. He was the only one who could make me eat dar bhat shak and do my homework. One of the best memories I have with Dada is going long walks while having endless conversations. When we came back he'd sometimes ask me to make cha and would drink it no how terrible it was. When we found out he had cancer everyone in the family was struck with grief, but Dada told us not to worry and that it would be okay.
Through all his chemos he put a smile on his face no matter how much pain he felt. He was a strong man whose motto in life was to never give up.
While being my grandfather, he also became my best friend and mentor as well. I could always count on him for advice and to twin with me when we went to the mall. He has taught us so much and we can only hope to be as great of a person as he was.
We will always miss dada but his absence will never be felt because although he isn't physically with us, his memories and greatness will always reside in our hearts. Down here we are mourning the death of such as great person, but up there God is rejoicing his arrival.
