Obituary of SISTER MARY THADDEUS McGORTY

Sister Mary Thaddeus McGorty, 93, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Thursday, September 17, 2015 at St. Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ. Sister Mary Thaddeus was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, the daughter of Thaddeus and Mary (Ferry) McGorty. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1940 and was a member for 75 years. Sister Mary Thaddeus graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ with a B.S. degree in Education. Sister Mary Thaddeus served in the education ministry in New Jersey. She taught in Holy Trinity School, Hackensack; St. Francis School, Ridgefield Park; St. George School, Paterson; St. Joseph School, Jersey City; Epiphany School, Cliffside Park; St. Peter Elementary School, New Brunswick; and Sacred Heart School, Rochelle Park. She then served as Financial Assistant at Sacred Heart School, Jersey City. She retired to Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station in 2012 where she resided until her death. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her brother Francis and sister-in-law Dolores, her sister Isabell Donnelly and her sister-in-law Ruth McGorty; nieces, nephews, grand- and great-grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Patrick, John Thaddeus, Andrew, James and Joseph and sisters Mary Cossolini and Ann Mahon.
