Obituary of SISTER BETTY HANNAGAN

Sister Betty Hannagan, 78, formerly Sister Joseph Kathleen, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Morristown Medical Center, Morristown, NJ. Sister Betty was born in Newark, New Jersey, the daughter and only child of Joseph M. and Catharine (Classick) Hannagan. She entered the Sisters of Charity on March 6, 1955 and was a member for 60 years. Sister Betty graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. Sister Betty served as Teacher in NJ at Saint Bridget School, Saint Anne School and Saint Michael School, Jersey City; Our Lady of All Souls School, Our Lady Help of Christians School, East Orange; Sacred Heart School, Newark; and Saint Andrew School, Westwood. She served in Parish Ministry at Saint Joseph Parish, Oradell, NJ; Saint Joseph Parish, Palm Bay, FL; and Saint Dominic Parish, Panama City, FL. Sister Betty served in Retreat Ministry at Mt. Carmel Retreat House, Mahwah, NJ; Xavier Center, Convent Station, NJ; Mt. Carmel Spirituality Center, Canada; and Visitation House of Prayer, Vero Beach, FL. She moved to Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station in 2006 where she resided until her death. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity and loving friends.
