I met Robert (Bob) at the Montclair Bird Club back in the 80s and 90s. While on bird trips, he would share not only his exceptional knowledge of the birds by their songs, but also introduced me to the various butterflies that would be passing us along the nature trails. I particularly remember him pointing out a blue Azure butterfly on a club trip to the Great Swamp in March. He advised me that it was a true sign of the coming spring as it was one of the first butterflies to awaken after winter. For several years I would stop by monthly and pick him up to bring him to the meetings of the Montclair Bird club several miles away as he did not drive or have a car. He was a quiet and gentle soul who will be well remembered as such. John Davidson, Denville NJ

Rest in Peace Uncle Bob <3 I will always cherish my memories of our family "get togethers" at your house with your mom Eloise, Aunt Laura, Gail & Carol with their mom & dad, Eunice & Elmer, and all of us McDermott's along with my grandma & grandpa Grace & Cy. What a houseful! You were always so patient and always willing to show us interesting facts about birds & butterflies, as well as share you musical talents. So much fun!
