Obituary of JOHN RUSSELL BRIDGEMAN

John R. Bridgeman of Maplewood, NJ, and formally of Summit, NJ and Spring Lake, NJ, died on February 13, 2016 at the age of 93.
He was raised in Maplewood, attending Jefferson Elementary, Maplewood Junior High and Columbia High School School, class of 1944. After the war and his marriage to Barbara Fair Bridgeman, he returned to Maplewood to raise his family on Woodland Road.
After the death of his wife Barbara in 1974, he later married Mrs. Nancy Steinen Dexheimer and lived for 30 years in Summit, NJ. Most recently he was a resident at Winchester Gardens in Maplewood, NJ.
He served in the Navy during World War II at a Lt Jg. from 1943 to 1946. After his service he attended Steven Institute of Technology, earning both a Bachelor's (1949) and a Master's of Science degree in Engineering (1953). He was a licensed engineer.
He began his business career with Public Service Electric & Gas Co., in 1949, working in various engineering and operations management positions until his retirement in 1989.
For many years he was involved in residential apartment real estate, managing properties for Greenbridge Corporation, and also served as the president of the Property Owners Association of New Jersey.
In his early years he was an active figure skater, belonging to the Skating Club of New York, and later, with his family, the South Mountain Skating Club. He was an avid sailor and golfer. He was a member of the Baltusrol Golf Club, Manasquan River Golf Club and the Old Guard of Summit. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church of Summit.
He is survived by his wife Nancy of Chatham, NJ; three children from his first marriage, Elizabeth Nuechterlein of Shaker Heights, OH, John R. Bridgeman Jr. of Montvale, NJ, and Roger Bridgeman of Sharon, Mass.; as well as three step children, Peter Dexheimer of Woodstock, MD., Heidi Delany of Great Falls, Va., and Craig Dexheimer of Chatham, NJ.; and 14 grandchildren.
