Sister Francis Devlin, 90 formerly Sister Francis Joannes, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Friday, September 16, 2016 at Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ.
Sister Francis was born in West Chester, PA, the daughter of Francis and Julia (Downing) Devlin. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1943 and was a member for 73 years.
She graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ, with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education and from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN with a M.A. degree in English.
Sister Francis was an educator in New Jersey at the following schools: Holy Name School and East Orange Catholic High School, East Orange; Holy Trinity H.S., Westfield, and also served as Principal. She was a teacher at Marylawn of the Oranges, South Orange, and DePaul Catholic High School, Wayne. She then served in Public Relations at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY; Paramus Catholic H.S., Paramus, and at St. Mary's Hospital, West Palm Beach, FL. Sister Francis was a librarian at Immaculate Conception H.S., Montclair. She retired to Saint. Anne Villa, Convent Station in 2002 where she resided until her death.
Sister Francis is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her sister Eileen Morell, many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and several great-grand nieces and nephews.
