Sister Helen Gregory Cotter 92, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station, NJ .
Sister Helen Gregory was born in Orange, NJ, the daughter of George Gregory and Elizabeth (Brennan) Cotter. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1944 and was a member for 72 years.
She graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ with a B.S. in Elementary Education.
Sister Helen Gregory was an educator in New Jersey and Florida. She taught at St. Joseph School, and St. Philip Neri School, Newark; St. Michael School, Union City; St. Joseph School, Pensacola, FL; St. Bridget School, Jersey City; St. Mary Elementary School, Dumont,; St. Cecilia Elementary School, Englewood; and the Academy of St. Aloysius, Jersey City. Sister Helen Gregory served as librarian at Hudson Catholic Regional High School, Jersey City. She was an assistant coordinator and then coordinator at Visiting Homemakers, Jersey City. She retired to Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station in 1998 where she resided until her death.
Sister Helen Gregory was predeceased by her parents and her sisters, Sally and Cecile. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her brother, Rev. George Cotter, MM, her cousin, Thomas Kearny, her brother in law John Flemming, and many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews.
