Sister Catherine Macaulay, 91, formerly Sister Francis Bernadette, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Thursday, December 8, 2016 at The Villa at Florham Park, Florham Park, NJ.
Sister Catherine Macaulay was born in Jersey City, NJ, the daughter of John and Delia (Raftery) Macaulay. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1944 and was a member for 72 years.
She graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education.
Sister Catherine served in the education ministry in New Jersey. She was a teacher in Our Lady of Sorrows School, South Orange; St. Francis School, Ridgefield Park; Epiphany School, Cliffside Park; Holy Trinity School, Hackensack; St. Agnes School, Paterson; St. Antoninus School, Newark; St. Nicholas School, Passaic; Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Tenafly; St. Charles Borromeo School, Newark; St. Patrick School, Jersey City; St. Philip the Apostle School, Saddle Brook; and St. Anne School, Jersey City. She then served as Director of Arts and Crafts at Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station.. She was a caregiver and volunteer at the Convent of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station. Sister Catherine retired to Saint Anne Villa, Convent Station in 2004.
She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her nieces, Barbara Churchill, Eileen Buroff, Kerri Anne Blanchard, Carol McManus and Kathleen Fitzgerald.
