Sister Mary Catherine Regan, 98, formerly Sister Anita Catherine, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Monday, January 23, 2017 at The Villa at Florham Park, Florham Park, NJ.
Sister Mary Catherine was born in New York City, NY, the daughter of Jeremiah and Nora (Coan) Regan. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1935, and was a member for 81 years.
She graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ with a B.S. degree in education.
Sister Mary Catherine was engaged in the ministry of education for thirty nine years in New Jersey, Massachusetts and Florida. In the city of Newark, NJ, Sister served as teacher in St. Rose of Lima School, St, Aloysius School, Sacred Heart School and Saint Antonius School. She also taught in Holy Name of Jesus School, East Orange, Our Lady of Sorrows School, South Orange, Star of the Sea Academy, Long Branch, and Saint Teresa School, Summit. Sister completed her education ministry as Resource Center Staff Member in Mother Seton Regional High School, Clark and Saint Joseph School, Pensacola FL.
In 1976 Sister Mary Catherine began her ministry of Prayer, Spiritual Direction and Inner Healing. Through this new ministry she served the people of God for thirty years in the communities of St. Sylvester House of Prayer, Brooklyn, NY; Sacred Heart House of Prayer, Cullman, Alabama; Saint Joseph Prayer Center, Kings Park, NY; Lord's House of Prayer, Montclair, NJ; Sacred Heart Institute and Mt. Saint Dominic, Caldwell, NJ; and Mt. Saint Andrew Villa, Paramus, NJ.
She retired to the Villa in 2004 where she resided until her death.
She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her sister and brother-in-law Delia and Jack Drake, and many nieces and nephews.
