Obituary of ADOLFO AL MAROCCO
Please share a memory of ADOLFO to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Adolfo "Al" Marocco went home peacefully to the Lord on February 10, 2017.
He was born in Paterson, NJ to Oreste and Mary Marocco. He had a colorful youth, often skipping school to go to New York City to see Frank Sinatra perform. While in high school, he worked at the Paterson Pastry Shop.
After serving his country in Korea, he returned home and married the love of his life, Mary LaMonica. Their courtship began through letters exchanged while he was overseas.
Al and Mary married in 1954 and lived in Totowa before coming to Montville in 1967. He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University at night while continuing to work as a baker by day. His career in finance brought him to positions at Bristol-Myers, Baker Industries, Mattel, and the Salvage Corp.(a division of Lloyds of London) from which he retired as Vice President of Finance 13 years ago.
Al was an active and valued member of the St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church in Montville, and its Knights of Columbus Council, where he served many years as treasurer and was named "Knight of the Year" in 2007. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5481 of Montville, where he served as Vice Commander, the Montville Seniors, and the Knights of Columbus Color Corps. He worked tirelessly to help his community and in 2012 was named a "Living Treasure of Morris County" for his volunteer work.
Al loved to travel with his beloved wife, and together, they visited over 60 countries.
His greatest passion was his family, and he was devoted to his children and grandchildren, seldom missing a performance, game or event.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary (nee LaMonica) Marocco; his son, Gregory Marocco of Montville; his daughter, Cheryl Bookstaver and her husband John of Montville; his sister, Jennie Bizzaro; his granddaughters, Alexandra Hartley of Ithaca, NY and Allison Hartley of Alexandria, VA, and their fiancees David Specht and Kovit Kong, as well as his "bonus grandchildren" Christopher, Andrew, Nicole, and Krista Bookstaver. He was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Marocco.
