Obituary of MARITZA E. CARVAJALES ZABEL

Maritza E. Carvajales-Cepeda Zabel passed away on Friday morning, February 24, 2017 at Columbus Hospital LTACH in Newark following an extended illness. She was 67. She was born on March 5, 1949 in Barranquilla, Colombia. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 18 and lived in New York, NY most of her years. In February, 2000 she married Benjamin B. Zabel. They had just celebrated their 17th Anniversary of marriage before her death. Maritza lived in Ledgewood, NJ for the last 17 years along side her loving husband. After her early retirement, she dedicated her time to her marriage, family and church. She is survived by her husband, Ben; two sisters, Emma and Angela; a brother, Saul; and many nieces and nephews. Although she never had her own children, she was a mother figure for all of her nieces and nephews. She had a contagious smile and laugh that can never be forgotten.
