Obituary of SISTER PATRICIA MARY McMULLEN

Sister Patricia Mary McMullen, 91, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died peacefully on May 27, 2017.
Born in East Orange, NJ, Sister Patricia Mary was the daughter of Paul J. and Emily (Hughes) McMullen. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1947, and was a member for almost seventy years.
Sister Patricia Mary earned a B.A. degree in English from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ and an M.A. degree in English from Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ. A dedicated educator, she taught Latin and English at The Academy of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station for two years and at Bayley-Ellard High School, Madison, for fourteen years. For many years following, Sister Patricia Mary ministered as Principal at Saint Cecilia High School, Englewood; Immaculate Conception High School, Montclair and returned as Principal to the Academy of St. Elizabeth. In addition she served at Marylawn of the Oranges, South Orange, as Vice Principal. Sister Patricia Mary retired to Saint Anne Villa at Convent Station, in 2004, where she volunteered, particularly as the Receptionist.
Sister Patricia Mary was predeceased by her parents, Paul J. and Emily (Hughes) McMullen, her brothers Paul, Jr. and Edward and sister Sister Emily McMullen, SSJ. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity as well as a large family of nieces and nephews: Leonard (Margaret) Sullivan, Mary Ann (Michael) Cunningham, Ann M. Hale, William (Patricia) McMullen, Donald Rohrman, Paul McMullen, Janice McMullen, Heidi McMullen-Dughi (Charles), Kevin McMullen, Casey Sullivan, Lenore (Robert) Winemiller, Patricia Sullivan Bogan. In addition, she is survived by 33 grand and great nieces and nephews.
Blessed with a keen sense of humor and a gift for being a good friend, Sister Patricia Mary lived in the Vincentian spirit embodied in the phrase Caritas Christi urget me. (The Charity of Christ urges me on.)
