Sister Ellen was like a mother to me. She sat next to me when I worked at the college, and we became great friends. I used to drive her home every day because she couldn't see to cross the street. I came to rely on her for her advice and opinions. She was so wise. She was nurturing, kind, and loving. She stood up for the issues she knew to be right and was a great role model for young and not so young women. Once when my husband had a medical problem, she sat and said the rosary for him while she waited for me to take her home. Another time, she told me to tell a professor not to give me work so close to the end of my day. "You tell her I said so! I can do that because I helped her with her dissertation," she told me, outraged that I was inconvenienced.
I will miss my lovely friend for the remainder of my life, but I will take with me the many gifts she gave me.
