Sister Cecilia Rose Devine, a Sister of Charity of St. Elizabeth, passed away Wednesday morning, December 13, 2017 at The Villa at Florham Park. She was 84.
Sister Cecilia Rose was born in Peabody, MA, the daughter of Thomas and Diana (Demers) Devine. She entered the Sisters of Charity on April 2, 1951 and was a member for 66 years. Sister Cecilia was a quiet but fun loving woman who loved teaching and cared for her students. She was gentle of manner, especially in these past years when she was limited by her infirmities.
She graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, NJ with a B.A. degree in Social Studies. Sister Cecilia Rose served in education in the State of New Jersey. She was a teacher at St. Brendan School, Clifton; St. Michael's School, Newark; and Sacred Heart School, Bloomfield. In 2005, after Sacred Heart School closed, she moved to Saint Thomas the Apostle Convent, Bloomfield where she resided until going to the Villa in 2011.
She was predeceased by her parents, her beloved brother Thomas, and her good friend Sister Georgette Lingle, SC. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity and cousins in California and Massachusetts.
