Obituary of MARIE J. MASCIA
Please share a memory of MARIE to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marie J. Mascia (nee DeMare) passed away Tuesday morning, December 26, 2017 at Morristown Medical Center. She was 87.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, she moved to Boonton, NJ in 1961 and subsequently lived in Parsippany, NJ before coming to Montville, NJ 35 years ago.
Ms. Mascia had worked as a clerk with Allied Signal Co. in Florham Park, NJ before retiring 20 years ago.
She was a member of St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church of Montville, the Montville Seniors, and the Red Hat Society. She had also worked with the Morris County Board of Elections as a election judge in Montville for many years.
Survivors include her five children, Jim Mascia and his wife Terry of Parsippany, NJ, Carolyn Mascia Reed and her husband Richard of Warren, NJ, Donna Mascia and her husband Jeff McBride of Basking Ridge, NJ, John Mascia and his wife Paula of Boston, MA, and Lisa Kaspar and her husband Michael of Cedar Knolls, NJ; and ten grandchildren, Gina Marie, Jimmy, James, John Michael, Sam, Elizabeth, Nicole, Michael, Francesca and Luciano. Marie was very excited that her great-granddaughter "Mini Mascia" is on the way. She will also be missed by her grand-puppies and grand-kitties. Marie was preceded in death by her brothers, John DeMare and Patrick DeMare.
Sometimes, people can glimpse the essence of a person by their name; for instance, MARIE JOSEPHINE DeMARE MASCIA might evoke these images: "Marie", someone with a deep desire for family and community, stubborn, loyal, creative and unique, sentimental and a good observer of people. "Josephine", a dreamer and a visionary. "DeMare", the sea. "Mascia" , dressmaker.
She was mom and super-gram, daughter, sister and friend. She was the final generational "Aunt Marie" to her nieces and nephews. She was the original "fashionista" and her sense of humor and laugh, quick-witted and infectious. She was persistent and committed to her beliefs, and above all, compassionate to others. She loved, loved, loved to dance and had a lovely singing voice. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren and was so excited awaiting the arrival of her first great-grandchild...a girl...perhaps they will pass each other in the night. She was insistent that, at the time of her final resting place, she had "a flashlight and a fan".....Mom, you're good to go. Rest peacefully
