Maida Maria Mayer Avallone was born on June 3, 1924 in Stuttgart, Germany, the only child of Edmund & Maria Mayer. She came to the USA as a 3 year old in 1927 residing in West New York, NJ. She attended grammar school at St. Joseph Church and then to Memorial High School, followed by modeling school in New York City. Her first job was as a secretary at Maxwell House in Hoboken, NJ. In 1945 she met her husband Ralph who she married on August 1, 1948. Her first child, Ralph Jr., was born on September 29, 1949 followed by her second child, Dolores, born on May 29, 1953.
Maida was a stay-at-home Mom until 1960 when she was asked by Rev. Michael Fitzpatrick to run the cafeteria at St. Joseph's High School which she did for over 10 years.
Together with her husband they shared the passion of travel. They cruised many Caribbean ports and visited China, Taiwan, Thailand, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Fatima, Portugal, and The Vatican in Rome, Italy.
In Montville since 1973, Maida was a lifetime member of Deborah Hospital Foundation, St. Pius X Rosary Society, and Recording Secretary for the Montville Republican Club. A life spent volunteering.
Her extended family consists of 4 grandchildren, Melissa Nikolakopoulos, Nicole Avallone Cavallaro, Ralph J. Avallone, III, and Lauren Anne Avallone. Maida has 5 great- grandchildren, Alexander Nikolakopoulos, Carlee and Rachelle Avallone, and Nicholas and Vincent Cavallaro.
