Robert Jackson Jr. passed away Sunday morning, October 14, 2018 at the Runnels Specialized Hospital in Berkeley Heights, NJ following an extended illness. He was 80. He was born on Arpil 30, 1938 in Snowdoun, Alabama. He was the only child born to the late Robert Jackson Sr. and Bettie Mae (nee Staffing) Jackson. Robert was known affectionately as BIG Dipper. His parents left the state of Alabama to seek a better future for themselves in Newark, New Jersey. Robert was educated in Newark Public Schools, and at the age of 16 enlisted in the United States Army. After leaving the Army, Robert sought employment with Safeway Trucking Company, where he retired after thirty years of service. On July 14, 1973, Robert married his first wife Ella Mae Jackson. From their union were three children. Robert lived his life giving to and loving everyone. His glowing personality had a positive effect on all that came in contact with him. Robert developed a love for bowling, at which he became a great expert, and received five rings and trophies. Robert Jackson leaves five children to mourn his passing: Debra Mitchell, Vera Williams, Sonya Jackson Bey, Andre Jackson, and Robert Jackson III; 18 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillian Jackson; and a host of family and friends. Robert Jackson was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Jackson Sr. and Bettie Mae jackson Covington. Daddy's Legacy will be continued with Robert Jackson IV.
