Sister Audrey Furman, 75, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at her home in Brick, NJ surrounded by her loved ones and good friends.
Sister Audrey was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, the daughter of Fred and Estelle (Mackin) Furman. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 9, 1973 and was a member for forty-five years.
Prior to entering the Sisters of Charity, Sister Audrey received a Certificate to be an Infant Care technician from the former foundling home of St. Vincent Hospital, Montclair, NJ. As a Sister of Charity, she continued to follow her passion for children by pursuing a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education from Kean College, Union, NJ. Her ministry extended to programs in both New Jersey and Florida. In Florida, she served as vice-principal at St. Joseph School, Pensacola. In New Jersey, Sister Audrey was a Medical Assistant and Coordinator of Child Care, and Supervisor of Infant Toddler Program at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Paterson; Pre-K teacher at St. Mary's, Elizabeth, and St. Joseph's, Roselle. She provided Child Care for the teachers and staff at Perth Amboy Catholic Primary, Perth Amboy, NJ until illness prevented her from continuing this beloved ministry.
Sister Audrey loved children and was happiest when engaged in teaching and caring for them. She was a happy, cheerful person who loved nature, gardening, cooking and being with her family and close friends.
Sister Audrey is survived by the Sisters of Charity; a devoted brother, Justin Furman and his wife Peg; nephews Andrew and Corey; many grandnieces and grandnephews; her good friend, Beverly Policastro, SC.
