Obituary of SISTER EVELYN LEBIEDZ

Sister Evelyn Lebiedz, 83, (formerly Sister Malwina Anne, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died on January 1, 2019 at St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center, Cedar Grove, NJ.
Sister Evelyn was born in Paterson, New Jersey, the daughter of Vincent and Malwina (Waszkielewicz) Lebiedz. She entered the Sisters of Charity on September 6, 1953 and was a member for 65 years.
Sister Evelyn graduated from All Souls' Hospital School of Nursing, Morristown, NJ with a RN degree in Nursing, Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ with a B.S.N. degree in Nursing and from Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA with a M.S.N. degree in Maternal & Child Health. Sister Evelyn served in the health ministry as a Maternity and Mid-wife in St. Mary's Hospital Passaic, NJ; Elizabeth Seton Residence, Wellesley, MA; Nurses' PRN, Jackson, MS; Sts. Peter & Paul, VI, Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, FL; Booth Hospital, Philadelphia, PA; Lee Memorial Hospital, Fort Myers, FL; Santa Cruz, NM; Christ the King Parish, Hillside, NJ; Cape Coral Hospital, and Ft. Myers, FL.
She also served at the Sisters of Charity Mission in Caranavi, Bolivia, and on the Island of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Upon her return to New Jersey, she resided at St. Joseph Hospital Convent, Paterson, NJ from which she volunteered at St. Joseph Rehabilitation Center, Cedar Grove, NJ.
Sister Evelyn's wide range of experience as a midwife in so many different rural and poor areas is a testament to both her excellence as a practicing midwife and to the great need for this work around the globe. She was a free spirit in many ways but was truly dedicated to assisting in maternal care especially in areas where such care was vital. Her indomitable spirit, great sense of humor and her zest for life assisted her in carrying forward the spirit of charity and love to all people with whom she ministered and served.
She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters : Stella Kopcho, Florence Blaskewicz, Eleanor Allex, and her brothers, Leonard, Edward and Henry Lebiedz.
She is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her brother Rev. Bernard V. Lebiedz, OSB; her sister, Frances Malkiewicz and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews,
