Obituary of HELEN MARY McDERMOTT

Helen Mary McDermott 89, of Toms River, NJ went home to be with our Lord peacefully on Friday March 8, 2019 at her sister Theresa's residence in Denville with her loving family by her side after a long illness. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and Godmother. Mary was one of eleven children to bless Edward and Helen Kennedy McDermott. Born in Newark, she resided in Belleville most of her life before moving to Toms River in 2001. Prior to her retirement she was employed by Gordos Corporation in Bloomfield, NJ as an Assembler. Previously she was employed by Tung-Sol Electronics in Bloomfield, NJ. Mary helped raise and support her 9 younger siblings and assisted her father in his oil truck business. Later, she was a caregiver to her elderly parents at home. Mary was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Toms River, NJ and was a member of The Legion of Mary. She also attended the daily mass at St. Mary's RC Church in Denville, NJ. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Helen Kennedy McDermott, and her siblings Sarah E., Thomas, Grace Lane, and Margaret Taylor. She is survived by her siblings, Edward (Gwen), Florence LaPlaca, Joseph (Lois), Theresa Larson (Darrel), Irene Farrow, and Mildred Doyle. She is also survived by her caring brother-in-law Darrel Larson and many generations of nieces and nephews including her godchildren Debra Larson and Maureen Weining. Mary with her caring and gentle soul will always be missed by those who knew her.
