Obituary of ISAAC H. SINGLETON

Please share a memory of ISAAC to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Isaac Singleton of Lake Hiawatha passed away peacefully at The Boonton Care Center in Boonton. He was 95 years old. The 3rd son of Willis and Annie Hingleton, Isaac was born in Columbia, South Carolina. In his early years, he attended Richland County public schools, and then left to proudly serve in The U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. His military career began at Fort Jackson, and continued at Tuskegee airbase in Alabama, and finally, Fort Dix, New Jersey. After his military service, Isaac returned to South Carolina only to shortly thereafter relocate to Newark, New Jersey. There he began his family and established his career. It was also in Newark that he met his future wife, Dorothy. Isaac and Dorothy were married, had 2 children, and remained together until her passing in 1963. Isaac worked in a factory for a short time after arriving in Newark. He left because he just couldn't function in a night shift job. He then, started working part-time with independent, small commercial printers. From there he eventually went to work for a large commercial printer, the Merling Paper Company. It was there that he discovered his passion for commercial printing. Isaac's integrity and work ethic greatly impressed Mr. Merling as well as his customers. As a result, at his retirement, Mr. Merling gave all his business accounts and equipment to Isaac. It was then that Isaac started his own commercial printing company, the Uneeda Envelope Company, which he co owned with Nick Alfano and he continued to operate for 40 years. Isaac was a selfless man, he contributed his printing services to his church, Queen of Angels, and would also donate small jobs such as invitations to various events for his family and friends. He also was a playground volunteer at his children's school and he assisted with little league baseball. He enjoyed the Mets, an exciting game of Spades, the Meadowlands, and cooking Sunday dinners for his family. Isaac was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy (nee Washington), his brothers: James Hingleton, Roosevelt Hingleton, Willis Hingleton, Lomas Hingleton, and his sister, Gladys Smith. He is survived by his son Henry Singleton and his wife Nanette of Lake Hiawatha, NJ; his daughter, Jean Singleton Stewart of Columbia, SC; his son, Martin Anthony and his wife Sabrina of Clover, SC; his daughter, Valerie Bowen-Townes and her husband Arthur of Newark, NJ. Isaac is survived by his brothers: Thomas Hingleton and Frank Hingleton of Columbia, SC; his sister, Virgie Mae Williams of Ft. Washington, MD, as well as his grandchildren: Chaunci Singleton, Justin Singleton, Isaiah Stewart, Richard Stewart, Christopher Anthony, Jaliyl Bowen, Aaliyah Bowen, and Itiyah Bowen, and nine great - grandchildren.
