Sister Ann Dorrity, 85, formerly Sister Barbara Michael, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Saturday, November 9, 2019 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Paterson, NJ.
Sister Ann was born in Orange, New Jersey, the daughter of Henry and Ruth (Hilton) Dorrity. She entered the Sisters of Charity on March 24, 1952 and was a member for 67 years.
Sister Ann graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, New Jersey with a B.A. degree in Music/Elementary Education, and from Villanova University, Villanova, PA with an MLS degree in Library Science. Sister Ann was an Educator in New Jersey. She served as a teacher at St. Bridget School, Jersey City; St. Margaret of Scotland School, Morristown and Sacred Heart School, New Brunswick. She was Director of Education in the Western Province, Paterson; a Library Consultant for Grolier Educational Services at St. Nicholas School, Passaic and Nativity School, Midland Park, and in the Diocese of Paterson, Clifton. She was Librarian at Our Lady of Visitation School, Paramus. She was Principal at Immaculate Conception School, Franklin. She was in Patient Relations and in Pastoral Care at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Paterson and an Administrative Assistant and chaplain in St. Joseph Wayne Hospital, Wayne.
Sister Ann is survived by the Sisters of Charity; her sisters Patricia Nelson and Michelle Jacobus and her brother John Dorrity. She was supported and loved by her cousins and nieces and nephews.
Sister Ann will be remembered as a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth who had a great love for the community and for her family and friends. She was known as a "Teacher of Teachers" who had a great sense of humor.
