Obituary of SISTER JOAN WOODS

Sister Joan Woods, 89, formerly Sister Agnes Clare, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Tuesday, December 3, 2019. Sister Joan was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, the daughter of John A .and Agnes (Clavie) Woods. She entered the Sisters of Charity on October 2, 1949 and was a member for 70 years. Sister Joan graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, New Jersey with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and from Seton Hall University, South Orange, New Jersey with a M.A. degree in Elementary Education. Sister Joan was an Educator in New Jersey. She served as a teacher at St. Anastasia School, Teaneck; Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Maplewood; Our Lady of Lourdes School, West Orange; Sacred Heart School, Newark; St. John School, Orange; Our Lady of Good Counsel, Newark, and St. Francis Xavier School, Newark. She became a volunteer at the Convent of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station in 2010. She is survived by the Sisters of Charity and her cousins, George Burke, Eileen Kosta, John Burke, Jr. and Peg Wynn. Sister Joan was known by all as a gentle presence with a generous heart. She always had time for someone in need. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Sisters of Charity Development Fund, P.O. Box 476, Convent Station, NJ 07961-0476 would be greatly appreciated.
