Obituary of LAXMIBEN V. SMART

Laxmiben V. Smart (nee Upadhya) passed away Saturday evening, May 2, 2020 at New Grove Manor Nursing Center in East Orange, NJ. She was 100. Born in Surat, Gujarat, India, she lived many years there before immigrating to the United States. She was a resident of Lodi, NJ. A homemaker, Mrs. Smart was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Although she was the eldest person in her family, Laxmiben was the most independent and progressive member of the family. She was preceded in death by her husband Virsukhram Smart; three brothers, Rameshchandra Upadhya, Nareshchandra Upadhya, and Sureshchandra Upadhya; one sister, Sushila Bhutt; and a son, Kirit Smart. Survivors include two sons, Ashwin Smart and Shobhan Smart; two daughters, Divya Munshi and Ketki Smart; thirteen grandchildren; and sixteen-great grandchildren. IN THE INTEREST OF PUBLIC HEALTH, ALL SERVICES AND SUBSEQUENT CREMATION WILL BE PRIVATE. THE FAMILY WILL HAVE A PUBLIC MEMORIAL IN THE FUTURE.
