Sister Mary Pierre McPhee, 88, a Sister of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, died Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Saint Joseph's Healthcare and Rehab Center, Cedar Grove, NJ.
Sister Mary Pierre was born in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Richard) McPhee. She entered the Sisters of Charity on April 2, 1950 and was a member for 70 years.
Sister Mary Pierre served in Education and in Child Care ministry in New Jersey, Missouri and Massachusetts. She served as a teacher at St. Mary School, Salem, MA; St. Anne School, Jersey City, NJ; Corpus Christi School, Hasbrouck Heights, NJ; and St. Cecilia School, Englewood, NJ. She was a Child Care Worker at St. Mary's Special School, St. Louis, MO; Montessori Educare, and Newton Montessori School, Newton, MA. She was a Volunteer at Xavier Center and at The Villa at Florham Park, Florham Park, NJ.
Sister Mary Pierre is survived by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, her sister Irene McAleavey, brother Peter McPhee, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Sister Mary Pierre will long be remembered by her students, whom she cherished, colleagues and many friends. She loved each child unreservedly. Her words recorded in an interview, reflect her commitment to charity. "Charity is giving without needing to get anything back….Charity is what you live," and so she did!
