Obituary of HARRY J. SAKAS

Mr. Harry James Sakas died Thursday morning, March 6, 2008 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare's Hospital in Dover. He was 80. Born and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts, he had lived there until joining the Navy at the age of 17. He also later lived in Moonachie before moving to the Lake Hiawatha section of Parsippany in 1963. He served in the United States Navy from 1944 until 1967. He founded Harry's Corner in South Hackensack in 1967 and operated the deli for many years before opening an additional location, Harry's Corner II in Lake Hiawatha. He retired in 2004. He was a longtime member of St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church in Randolph, and the Hellenic Educational Progress Association. He was also a member of the American Legion, Lake Hiawatha Post. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Freda (nee Koufos); two daughters, Alexandra Heffron of West Milford and Pamela Kelly of Lake Hiawatha; two sons, Christos and Dan Sakas both of Sarasota, FL.; a brother, George Tsakanis of Lodi; a sister, Joan Tranoris of Miami, FL.; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
